The Spirit of Sportsmanship

I have the opportunity to visit the Richmond Oval today. This is a brand new facility for the local community as well as one of the official venues for 2010 Winter Olympics.

In less than a year, world class speed skaters will be gathering in the Oval to compete for one of the highest honours in sports. There will be individual and group programs.

Watching Olympics Games has always been one of my favourite events since childhood. Although I am familiar with the the Summer Games, figure skating has always been an event that I enjoy being a spectator.

Baron Pierre de Coubertin, the founder of the modern Olympic Games, first stated the creed in 1896.

The Olympic creed:
“The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle
The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well.”
